Y : The Last Man by Brian K. Vaughan

What happens when everything in the world with a Y chromosome suddenly and violently dies?

Y: The Last Man by Brian Vaughan tells the story of Yorrick Brown - a kind but lazy, wannabe escape artist - and his Capuchin Monkey Ampersand in the societal collapse that follows the death of half of all life on the planet.

But what happened? Why was he spared? How will he survive in the new version of humanity, aware of its fast approaching extinction?

Full of interesting characters, including the militant Daughters of the Amazon, a ninja and the mysterious Agent 355, Yorick finds himself the centre of conspiracy theories, doomsday predictions and murder attempts all while trying to solve the mystery of the end of the world.

I enjoyed this comic immensely when it was first published, the setting was unique and the characters relatable. Anyone who is interested in the collapse of society, new world orders, world spanning mysteries and themes about being alone and an outsider will enjoy it too. It also has an excellent and realistic art style and is a mainstay of must read comics lists.

I recommend Y : The Last Man for anyone who enjoyed The Boys, Preacher, Saga, Invincible or Ex Machina.
