The Language and Literacy Service offers free independent language and literacy advice and referrals. The Libraries' qualified staff specialise in English as a Second Language (ESL) and adult literacy. See below for more information.

Language and Literacy Service

Greater Dandenong Libraries' Language and Literacy Service offers free independent language and literacy advice and referrals. The Libraries' qualified staff specialise in English as a Second Language (ESL) and adult literacy.

Services offered:

  • Confidential language and/or literacy assessments
  • Referral to appropriate English language/literacy courses based on a full assessment of client needs
  • Advice for further study and lifelong learning opportunities
  • Use of interpreter services
  • Job searching help
  • Resume support
  • Filling in forms (one-on-one appointment may be required)
  • Writing letters
  • Assistance with using government websites
  • Advocacy on behalf of clients
  • Conversation Circles
  • Assistance with the libraries' online learning tools.

For free help:

Ask friendly library staff to book you a one-one-one appointment. A library card, email address and mobile phone are required for most services.

It is free to join the library and membership is open to everyone.

Learning Help for Adults

Library provides help with  resumes, forms, letters, assignments or general questions.

Please phone the library on 1300 630 920 during opening hours to leave your name and phone number or email to get help.

Staff will contact you by phone or by email within 48 hours.

Library Tech Assist is available to all library members at the following times and locations.
 

Monday 2pm-4pm Dandenong Library

Wednesday 2pm-4pm Springvale Library

The Library Tech Assist team can assist with:

  • Accessing library eResources such as Kanopy, BorrowBox or Studiosity
  • Setting up an email account
  • Installing apps on phones or tablets
  • Using social media platforms such as WhatsApp, Facebook, Viber, Facetime and more.

To access this service, drop in during one of the times listed above, or phone the library during opening hours on 1300 630 920 to make a booking in advance.
