There’s No Such Thing by Heidi McKinnon

Do you like camping? What about when it’s night-time? When there are noises? You’re in a tent with only a small light and you can’t see what’s making the noises?

Well Bear had never been camping before. He’s the big one, and the little one is his Ted. (You don’t have to be big to be brave!)
Even on the front cover of There's no such thing, Bear looks a bit scared. But it’s okay to be scared and it’s better if you’ve got someone with you to talk to.

Also, it’s funny that we whisper when we’re scared, like we don’t really want anyone to hear!  Especially the ‘bad’ guys’! Bear whispers to Ted about the things that are scaring him and Ted reassures him by saying, ‘There’s no such thing’. Even though Ted gets a bit scared too, he makes Bear feel better by suggesting other reasons for the noises and the scary things.

Bear keeps saying ‘You’re right, Ted’. Ted makes Bear feel better.

The illustrations in There's no such thing are great and really show how scared and scary everything is. On one page, Ted is just opening one eye!  Funny Ted.

Bear wishes he could stop worrying so he decides to think happy thoughts. That helps him go to sleep. But then something really weird happens…
