Dandenong’s finest pedestrian urban space – Palm Plaza – received a major lighting upgrade. The mall boasts quality lighting for public spaces making it suitable for events and major public gatherings.
Palm Plaza is the city’s most prominent public space, offering a safe environment for people to walk. The established tree canopy and stunning palms give the mall its identifiable character make it an inner city oasis. The new lighting has only enhanced this, enabling people to enjoy Palm Plaza by day and by night.
The lighting upgrade has enabled the existing light poles in the mall to be retained and retrofitted to provide a colour mood light, which can be changed for the seasons. A series of new 18 metre poles also feature at Palm Plaza. The new poles boast a sophisticated design inspired by the palms and combine blue and white lights that illuminate the tree canopy.
The project has successfully reduced the overall energy consumption and running costs of the mall by using the latest energy efficient fixtures.
The project is the result of a funding partnership between Council, the Federal Government Infrastructure Program and the Dandenong Development Board.
A second upgrade of this lighting was also completed in 2019.
