Reading, Writing and Arithmetic: A History of Education

Join the City of Greater Dandenong’s Heritage team and Jack Martin, Assistant Manager, Collection Management from the Public Record Office Victoria (PROV) to discover the history of education in Victoria, and learn how to use PROV resources to undertake your own educational research.  

Using case studies and anecdotes, Jack will touch on the history of education and how to research schooling through the PROV online resources. This free presentation will cover the very earliest education records in the collection (1830s – 1870s) and how to find information about:

  • Teachers (1860s – 1960s)
  • Schools (1870s – c1970s)
  • Students
