Project Overview
Council has secured funding through the Australian Government’s Black Spot Programme to deliver targeted road safety upgrades in Clow Street.
Through this program, Greater Dandenong Council has received $693,338 (GST inclusive) in full funding to deliver road safety improvements along Clow Street, Dandenong.
Why is this happening?
Between June 2019 and July 2024, there were 14 crashes in this area, resulting in 36 injuries—including pedestrians and cyclists—and data shows drivers often exceed the 60 km/h limit.
The funding will be used to deliver targeted road safety upgrades aimed at slowing driver speed and reducing the likelihood and severity of crashes at high-risk locations along Clow Street. Collectively, these measures will help slow traffic and improve safety for all road users.
What’s changing?
The proposed works include reducing the speed limit from 60 km/h to 50 km/h, installing a new raised (wombat) pedestrian crossing, upgrading the existing signalised crossing to a raised crossing, and replacing the current children’s crossing with a wombat crossing. Together, these improvements will create a safer environment for drivers, motorcyclists, cyclists and pedestrians.
Consultation
We are now seeking resident and local business feedback via a survey on initial designs to shape the design. The survey will be open from Friday 28 August.
