Council is investing $3.4 million in Dandenong Market in 2026–27 to support essential upgrades to one of Greater Dandenong’s most important community and commercial destinations.

Delivered through the ongoing Dandenong Market Required Works Program, the works focus on building, safety and service improvements that support the Market’s long-term operation and improve the experience for traders, visitors and the broader community.

These include improvements to the basement car park, fire services, stormwater infrastructure and the Market’s public announcement system.

Together, these works help ensure Dandenong Market continues to meet the needs of the community and strengthen the essential infrastructure and services that support the precinct.

Background

For more than a century, Dandenong Market has been a cornerstone of the community. Established in 1866, it is one of Melbourne’s oldest markets and one of Australia’s largest, with more than 200 traders across 8,000 square metres.

Dandenong Market is owned by Council, with its day-to-day operations managed by Dandenong Market Pty Ltd (DMPL).
