Heritage Hill Museum and Historic Gardens invites the community to experience heritage in new ways through four seasonal Community Open Days.

Inspired by exhibitions, local stories and the changing gardens, each event offers welcoming activities for all ages, including creative workshops, discovery trails, storytelling, picnics and hands-on experiences, providing opportunities to connect with the people, places and stories that shape Greater Dandenong.

Different themes will be explored each quarter.

December's theme:

Christmas at Heritage Hill – Light, Summer and Community

The final Open Day of the year brings everyone together for a festive end-of-year celebration in the gardens.

As evening approaches, the site transforms with lanterns, music, and creative activities for families to enjoy together.

Visitors can make decorations inspired by Christmas traditions from around the world, join a lantern walk through the gardens, and experience a vintage Christmas display inside the historic house.

With performances, food, and a community wishes tree reflecting on the year, this celebration marks the start of summer and the close of the Heritage Hill seasonal series.

The evening will include a demonstration of furoshiki Japanese wrapping to give the visitors an opportunity to learn and practice several techniques throughout the evening.

It is a joyful moment to gather, celebrate, and look ahead together as a community.

Visitors can also discover The Secret Life of Gardens exhibition while at Heritage Hill. Exhibition is open until Thursday 4 February 2027.

Accessibility

We warmly welcome visitors with disabilities and assistance dogs. While the historic houses offer some degree of accessibility, there are uneven paths and steps throughout the gardens that may be difficult for those with wheelchairs, mobility aids and strollers. Please speak with staff for assistance during your visit.
