Barry Powell Reserve East Playground Consultation

Playground under construction

This consultation is now closed.

Construction of the new playground is in progress, and it is due for completion in late 2025.

From 23 October to 26 November 2023, Greater Dandenong City Council sought feedback and ideas for renewal of the Barry Powell Reserve East neighbourhood playground. Your ideas helped shape the design of the playground.

The new playground will include:

  • flying fox
  • swings, including a basket swing
  • tree house and rope course
  • rotating carousel
  • paths, trees and garden beds
  • seats, picnic and BBQ facilities.

Background

The vision for Barry Powell Reserve was determined from community engagement on the Master Plan in 2020.

As part of the master plan, it was proposed that the Barry Powell Reserve East playground be replaced with a nature-play themed playground within the existing informal parkland area.

The concept plan for the new playground has a nature-play theme, with the planting of at least 50 new trees. Play areas will be located among the new and existing trees. Equipment will be constructed from timber where possible, with the use of plastics kept to a minimum.

Visitors will be able to engage with nature whilst exploring the gardens and trails that lead around the playground. As trees and plants grow, they will create a changing play experience.
