Join us for the opening of Uncharted Waters. The Journey of Mother Tongue, an exhibition featuring Primordial, a newly commissioned dance film by choreographer and dancer Annalouise Paul.

The exhibition explores sacred geometries—patterns found across cultures and throughout the natural world—with a particular focus on the significance and symbolism of the spiral, and the processes that have shaped Paul’s ongoing interdisciplinary work, Mother Tongue®.

Doors open at 6pm, with a Welcome to Country by Uncle Mark Brown at 6.30pm, followed by a unique performative activation of the installation by the artist in the main gallery space. This live dance performance invites audiences to experience Paul’s bilingual mother tongue at the intersection of flamenco and contemporary dance. As Paul describes it, the work is about “breathing with the feet, listening with the eyes, seeing with the whole body, and hearing with the heart” — a sensorial encounter of the installation and the dance practice that shapes it.

The performance will be followed by an in-conversation with the artist in the gallery theatre, offering audiences an opportunity to hear more about the ideas, research and creative processes behind the work.

Visit the Uncharted Waters. The Journey of Mother Tongue home page for more information.

Tea and sweet treats will be served throughout the evening.

We look forward to welcoming you.
