What is the Train and Tram Zone Activity Centres Program?
Activity centres are places where people shop, work, access public transport, connect with family and friends, as well as live. Some examples are near train stations, shops and services along mains streets, to major areas with universities or shopping centres.
The State Government has proposed the Train and Tram Zone Activity Centres Program.
The program was piloted last year with 10 sites across Melbourne.
The State Government’s program has now expanded the program to 50 additional Train and Tram Zone Activity Centres. Four of the Train and Tram Zone Activity Centres are in Greater Dandenong – Springvale, Noble Park, Yarraman and Dandenong.
Who is responsible for developing the plans?
The State Government is leading the Train and Tram Zone Activity Centres Program.
How does the program interact with existing Council Policy?
Council has previously worked closely with our community to develop structure plans for Noble Park and Springvale Activity Centres. These plans set out a long-term vision to guide land use changes, public spaces and buildings. In the Dandenong Activity Centre, Council has been working closely with State Government on Revitalising Central Dandenong.
The policies and plans prepared by Council have been shared with the State Government. We have actively discussed them with the State Government, so that this work can be considered and incorporated into their planning process.
