The Local Government Act 2020 requires Councils to develop a Complaints Policy that outlines the process for complaint handling. The Act defines a complaint and stipulates the need for the complaints process to remain independent.
While Greater Dandenong Council has always had a thorough complaints resolutions process, this Policy now formalises that process.
Council worked closely with the Victorian Ombudsman and consulted their Good Practice Guide when developing the Policy, along with other local governments.
We would now like to hear what our community think of the Policy, and if any changes or modifications are recommended.
A draft version of the Policy was endorsed in principle by Councillors in December 2021, pending any community feedback.
