Emerson School Parallel Wilds Project Official Launch

PARALLEL WILDS: 2022 Emerson School Project

Students at Emerson School will launch their virtual story, Echo Call, at 9.15am Wednesday 2 November at Emerson School, funded by the City of Greater Dandenong.

Throughout 2022, students have worked with Craig Dent and Justin Dallinger of Parallel Wilds on Creative Writing and 360 filming and platform design. Sessions have been via Zoom and held at set location, Heritage Hill.

Parallel Wilds is an immersive and empowering 3D platform for youth, featuring creative writing, digital photography and videography, cosplay and modelling, 3D and drone imagery, and sound composition. This innovative convergence of artforms allows youth to express self-identity in the natural world, to create a speculative universe on the future of wilderness, set in 2050.

A virtual global 3D platform that is a hybrid of E-book and Computer Game, Parallel Wilds provides youth a forum for their visions of what our wilderness will become, and how they see themselves as protagonists in this future world. A partnership with Young Somerset and Exmoor National Park UK will provide a virtual exchange for students of Emerson to show their project and vice versa.

The important timing of this re-imagining of our future, and youth thoughts on themselves and wilderness, engenders a sense of social agency and optimism that reflects and addresses the state of the world affected by a pandemic and extinction of species, and the psychological impact both these things have on the youth of 2022.

Project Launch is at 9.15am on Wednesday 2 November at Emerson School.
