Greater Dandenong’s businesses were celebrated and recognised recently at the Greater Dandenong Business Awards.

The event aimed to spotlight businesses excelling in the areas of innovation, sustainability, community impact and performance excellence. It was held on June 26 at Hyatt Place Melbourne Caribbean Park.

UGLY Vodka was the major winner on the night, taking home the Innovation, Environmental and Sustainability Award (sponsored by SpicyWeb), as well as the Business Excellence Award (sponsored by National Australia Bank). The business turns food waste into premium spirits.

The Small Business Award (sponsored by Track HR Consultancy and MJC Partners) went to SS Human Resources for their tailored human resources support. Owner Ramya Tanguturi gave an inspiring speech about her passion for business, all while juggling the responsibilities of raising a young family with the support of her husband.

After her speech, Tanguturi mentioned her family had been waiting in the car for two hours to see if she had won the prize.

Greater Dandenong Chamber of Commerce Manager, Bruce Pearce commented,
“…the audience was surprised to hear this and demanded she bring her family upstairs to enjoy the festivities, which they did.”

“The atmosphere was relaxed and fun, while remaining classy,” said Bruce.

“These awards highlight the remarkable calibre of our local businesses, showcasing their resilience, ingenuity, and dedication.”
