Council’s Current Role - Aged and Disability Services

Council currently provides the following community care and support services that are subsidised by the Commonwealth and State Governments.

  • Domestic assistance — including general house cleaning, shopping (delivered to home) and linen services
  • Goods, equipment and assistive technology — including self-care aids, support and mobility aids, medical care aids, communication aids and reading aids 
  • Home maintenance — including home maintenance and repairs, and safety garden maintenance
  • Home modifications- installation of safety rails and ramps that assists clients limited mobility move around their home safely
  • Delivered Meals — either at home or at a centre
  • Personal care — including helping the client to care for themselves and manage their own medicine
  • Social support (individual) — including visiting, telephone/assistance with technology, and accompanied activities like shopping
  • Social support (group) — centre-based group activities to provide social connection
  • Flexible respite – providing a break for carers to help sustain family relationships

Council’s Positive Ageing Team also currently provides the following Council subsidised supports and activities to promote and encourage social connection, including:

  • A fleet of Council owned Community buses provides transport for shopping trips, group lunches, to promote social connection
  • Day Outings- trips on Community Buses to places of interest such as Werribee Zoo, Begonia Festival, Tessalar Tulip Farm
  • Exercise classes, Dances, regular carer walks, seniors’ programs such as Tech Savvy at Council libraries
  • Free use of Council venues for seniors’ clubs and groups
  • Greater Dandenong Ageing Well Newsletter.
