Exhibition Dates: 3 June - 3 September 2026
The Extraordinary Stories: Collection Highlights exhibition revealed how history is told through many voices and materials. Drawing on objects, photographs, artworks, oral histories, and archival records from the Greater Dandenong Civic and Cultural Collection, the exhibition bought together different types of material to tell rich, interconnected stories of people, places, and events.
Everyday objects sitting alongside personal photographs, recorded memories, and artworks, showing how individual experiences connect to broader community change.
From working lives and migration journeys to civic moments, creative expression and significant local places, the collection captured history as it was lived, remembered, and passed on.
Together, these materials showed that no single item tells the whole story—but when combined, they create a deeper understanding of Greater Dandenong’s past, present and evolving community identity.
With hands‑on activities, family‑friendly programs and workshops throughout the school holidays, there was a chance to experience Greater Dandenong’s history in a new and meaningful way.
We invited the community to step inside and discover the extraordinary in the everyday.
