Single Use Plastic Policy

Single Use Plastic Policy cover page

This policy demonstrates Councils commitment to eliminating single use plastics and plastic pollution. Single-use plastics, or disposable plastics, are typically used only once, before they are thrown away or recycled.

These items include:
•    Plastic bags
•    Plastic straws
•    Plastic cutlery and coffee stirrers
•    Water bottled in plastic
•    Plastic and polystyrene cups, plates, bowls and takeaway food containers
•    Balloons, plastic glitter, glow sticks and confetti
•    Single use or disposable promotional items or giveaways
•    Single use plastic tablecloths and unnecessary soft plastic packaging such as that used for food.

This policy applies to Council operations (including staff, contractors, or other representatives) as well as those planning, organising, running, and/or approving festivals, events and applicable activities on any land or building owned and managed by Council.
