In Australia, tap water is tested regularly to make sure it’s safe to drink. It’s monitored from the source all the way to your tap. Bottled water, on the other hand, is often just filtered tap water sold in plastic bottles.
The cost difference is huge, with bottled water being much more expensive. Most of what you pay for is the bottle, transport and branding — not the water.
Bottled water also has a big environmental impact. Fossil fuels are used to make and transport plastic bottles and many still end up in landfill or the environment even when we recycle.
