As part of the Victorian Seniors Festival, Greater Dandenong City Council proudly hosted seven remarkable centenarians at the new Keysborough Community Hub.
Keysborough local Jack Rogerson, 104, was among the guests of honour and recalls his time living in Greater Dandenong.
“It has really changed for the better. I remember Burden Park being nothing but paddocks and now it’s a great area for families with a big playground, walking trail and sporting areas.”
A favourite memory of Jack’s is joining the Noble Park Bowls Club and winning three consecutive finals in 1991, 1992, and 1993.
So what is the secret to a long and happy life? Jack’s answer was simple:
“Family. There is nothing better than the love from your family.”
The special morning tea on Tuesday 21 October brought together centenarians, their families, friends and carers to reflect on a century of memories, milestones, and community spirit.
Greater Dandenong Deputy Mayor, Councillor Sophie Tan welcomed guests to the event. Cr Tan said it offered a chance to hear the rich and diverse life stories of those who have helped shape the local area across generations, and to recognise the support provided by centenarians’ families and carers.
“Behind every centenarian is a team of people who help make each day meaningful, and their care and companionship make all the difference,” the Deputy Mayor said.
