More than 1500 residents gathered on Saturday 6 September to celebrate the official opening of the new Keysborough Community Hub, marking a significant milestone for one of Greater Dandenong’s fastest-growing communities.
Families, neighbours and community groups explored the new facilities and enjoyed a day of live entertainment, children’s activities and food from local providers.
Designed to bring people together, the Keysborough Community Hub offers a wide range of services and programs, including library, maternal and child health early years education and welcoming community spaces. With landscaped outdoor play areas and flexible rooms for gatherings, the Hub is quickly becoming a vibrant focal point for the Keysborough community.
The hub began opening in July with the launch of the community lounge and playground. Maternal and child health services commenced in August, with childcare to follow in the coming months and kindergarten services commencing in 2026.
City of Greater Dandenong Mayor, Cr Jim Memeti, said the official opening was an important moment for the community.
“I am excited to see families and neighbours enjoying this space together,” Cr Memeti said.
“The Keysborough Community Hub is more than a building.
“It’s a place where people of all ages can connect, learn and celebrate. I am proud of our Council’s commitment to investing in facilities like this, that will serve a growing community for decades to come.
“This is a beautifully designed, high quality, sustainable building and our community deserve nothing less.”
The hub’s design draws inspiration from Keysborough’s natural environment, celebrating the magnificent river redgums that were already here and with colour choices that echo the surrounding landscape.
Sustainability has been central to the project, with environmentally responsible materials and energy-efficient systems incorporated to support a 5-Star Green Star rating.
The project was supported by a $4 million contribution from the Victorian Government, including $3 million through the Building Blocks Grant and $1 million via the Living Libraries Infrastructure Program.
The Member for Mordialloc, Tim Richardson attended the event and said:
“The opening of the Keysborough Community Hub is a real celebration for the community. It provides a space where people of all ages can come together to learn new skills, shoot a hoop, take part in a book club, cook a community meal, enjoy a family BBQ or jump on the trampoline.
“I’m proud to have supported this project from concept to completion and congratulate everyone involved in creating such a special facility.”
Keysborough South Ward Councillor, Cr Isabelle Do, said:
“Growing up, I spent countless hours at Springvale Library, so I know how important spaces like this are - to our neighbours and to everyone who comes together here. The Hub is a much-needed addition to our neighbourhood, and with its perfect blend of nature, art, and community, I know this space will be appreciated by every single person who walks through its doors.”
The community celebration showcased the Hub’s many features, including a light-filled community lounge with more than 3000 library items, landscaped outdoor play areas and flexible spaces for community use. Visitors also had the opportunity to learn about the programs and services now available at the Hub.
The Keysborough Community Hub is open seven days a week.
