Greater Dandenong’s new Junior Mayor and Junior Deputy Mayor were sworn in following an exciting Children’s Advisory Group election in April.
Junior Mayor, Fariha Rezaei and Deputy Junior Mayor Omar Abulughod were elected by their enthusiastic peers, 30 children from nine primary schools across Greater Dandenong.
Greater Dandenong Mayor, Councillor Sophie Tan thanked the Children’s Advisory Group for their important role informing Council’s work with children and young people.
“Your confidence, your ideas and your willingness to participate in local leadership are something you should be very proud of,” the Mayor said.
In her speech, Fariha said, "Coming from an Afghan background, I know how important it is to have the freedom to speak up and be listened to. Not every child in the world gets that chance but we do!"
