National Recycling Week: Join the Cycle (Our Bright Green Future News November 2026)

Recycle

National Recycling Week 2026 runs from 9 to 15 November.

National Recycling Week is a great opportunity to think about the role we all play in reducing waste. This year's theme, "Join the Cycle", encourages everyone to recycle what they can, whenever they can.

Recycling helps conserve natural resources and reduce waste. Everything we use, from paper and cardboard to metals, plastics and glass, comes from the natural environment. When these are recycled, the materials can be used again,
reducing the need for new raw materials and helping protect the environment.

One of the simplest ways to make a difference is to use your kerbside recycling bin correctly. By placing only accepted recyclable items in your recycling bin, you help ensure valuable materials can be recovered and turned into new products.

Many items that don't belong in your recycling bin can still be recycled through dedicated drop-off programs. Batteries, e-waste, soft plastics, clothing, shoes, coffee cups and blister packs can often be recycled instead of sent to landfill.

This National Recycling Week, challenge yourself to take the next step. Before throwing something away, ask: Could this be recycled elsewhere?

Visit the National Recycling Week website for more information.

Try out the Recycle Mate tool on our website to search for an item to find out whether it belongs in your recycling bin, rubbish bin, or if a local drop-off option is available.
