Work starts next week on improvements to Dandenong Library that will make this much-loved community facility more welcoming and easier for everyone to use.
The improvements include a new parents' room for families and carers with young children, a new private multi-faith room for prayer and reflection, and additional study areas for focused learning and reading.
Greater Dandenong Mayor, Councillor Sophie Tan, said the changes reflected the many ways people use the library.
“Dandenong Library is a place where people come to learn, connect, get help or simply spend time,” Cr Tan said. “Everyone uses it differently, and these improvements recognise that.”
“Whether you’re caring for a young child, studying for an exam or looking for somewhere quiet to pray, these changes will help more people feel at home here.”
The work is expected to be completed by the end of December. The library will remain open during construction, although short one-day closures may be required. Visitors can also expect some noise and reduced access to parts of the building. Staff will be available to assist.
Dandenong Library offers much more than books. Visitors can access free Wi-Fi, computers and digital devices, take part in reading and learning programs, receive help with English and use the recording booth.
The $637,100 project is jointly funded by Council and the Victorian Government, which is contributing $318,550 through the Living Libraries Infrastructure Program.
