August's Reuse and Recycle Drop Off Day was a great success with community members dropping off 1,722kg of textiles, saving these from landfill.
Recycling these textiles has saved:
- 17,229,000 litres of water - that's about 334,000 loads of washing.
- 22,386kg of greenhouse gas - equivalent to taking 9 cars off the road for a year.
- 34,249kWh of electricity - that amount powers 1,903 homes for a day.
Almost 80% of these textiles were rehomed, and the remaining items repurposed.
The next Reuse and Recycle Drop Off Day will be held on Saturday 15 November from 8am. The day is a great opportunity to dispose of any larger unwanted household goods suitable for donating or electronic and household goods suitable for recycling.
