Greater Dandenong City Council has a clear plan to create a sustainable Bright Green Future for generations to come.
Greater Dandenong Mayor, Councillor Sophie Tan said she was excited to share the draft Our Bright Green Future Strategy and Action Plan 2025-35 with the community for their feedback before councillors consider it for adoption in early 2026.
“We have been busy reducing our emissions, revegetating and protecting our reserves, cleaning our waterways, and embedding sustainability into our daily operations.
“We are proud to share we have reduced our emissions by 80 percent since 2019, but this is just a small part of our sustainability journey.”
The newly-elected Mayor said Our Bright Green Future would build on the sustainability progress already made and the Greater Dandenong community’s expectations.
“It brings together and consolidates our sustainability-related plans and strategies into one clear document, making our actions for the next 10 years clear, measurable and relevant,” Cr Tan added.
This is part of a larger piece of work we are doing across Council to ensure our future plans have meaningful outcomes and are achievable within a responsible time and budget.
It is called the Integrated Planning Framework and its purpose is tying everything we do back to the 2025-29 Council Plan in a clear, measurable and relevant way.
“This is important because our Council Plan outlines all the things our community told us to focus on,” the Mayor said.
For sustainability, this includes:
- Finding opportunities to reduce litter, dumped rubbish and waste to landfill, as well as
improving wildlife corridor links. - Advocating for improved air quality, public transport, cycling, walking and uptake of
electric vehicles. - Increasing tree canopy to 15 per cent in the next three years. We’re already well on
our way.
All these priorities and more are included in the Draft Our Bright Green Future Strategy and Action Plan 2025-35.
