Over the next three months, 100 metal baskets will be installed on public litter bins across Greater Dandenong. The baskets support Victoria’s Container Deposit Scheme (CDS Vic) and make recycling easier when people are out and about.
The specially designed baskets will allow residents to leave or collect eligible drink containers, which can be returned to a CDS Vic refund point for a 10-cent refund. This provides a simple way for people to recycle without needing to carry containers home.
The baskets aim to reduce litter, cut landfill and encourage more recycling in public places. They also help community members who collect containers for refunds or fundraising.
The baskets will be placed in busy areas such as business precincts, public transport hubs, parks and reserves, where they can be easily accessed.
