People walking against family violence

Greater Dandenong unites against family violence

People walking against family violence

For more than a decade, our community has come together to take a stand against family violence, showing support for victim
survivors and reinforcing the message that violence has no place in Greater Dandenong.

This year's walk follows national recognition for the Greater Dandenong community, with the 2025 Walk Against Family Violence receiving a National Local Government Award for Addressing Violence Against Women and Children.

We invite residents to join the Walk Against Family Violence on Tuesday 24 November.

The walk will begin at Dandenong Market and conclude at Harmony Square, with participants carrying messages of hope, respect and solidarity. The event provides an opportunity for people of all ages and backgrounds to come together, reflect, connect and demonstrate their commitment to creating a safer and more respectful community.

It also marks the beginning of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Based Violence, a global campaign led by UN Women that raises awareness and calls for action to prevent and eliminate violence against women and girls.

Following the walk, attendees will hear from guest speaker Janet Cribbes, Chair of Wellsprings for Women. A respected social justice advocate, Janet has dedicated more than 30 years to advancing equity, inclusion and opportunities for women, children and
families across Victoria.

Community members will also be invited to contribute to the Tree of Respect, an interactive installation where participants can share what respect means to them. Together, these messages will create a powerful display highlighting the important role respect plays in preventing family violence.

Join us and help create a community where everyone feels safe, respected and valued.
