Displayed in 2024
Drum Theatre, Corner Walker and Lonsdale Streets, Dandenong
Hanging by a Thread was displayed at the Drum Theatre in 2024.
'Hanging by a Thread' Mosaic for Afghan Women - consisted of two public artworks and incorporated works of Victorian Afghan Women, produced here in Dandenong and facilitated through Afghan Women's Organisation Victoria.
Council was honored to be part of this global project drawing attention to the social and economic conditions of Afghan women and girls after the Taliban takeover.
Over 1200 participants from 46 countries have created individual glass mosaic panels to be assembled as mosaic scarves exhibited worldwide in public spaces. These Mosaic scarves works are being made and displayed in different parts of the world and represent the resilience of Afghan culture beyond its own borders. They remind us how 20 years of hard-won freedoms can, in a short time, come to be hanging by a thread. The scarves created across Australia will be joined together for a collective display in Canberra in August 2024 at the Glassworks Museum.
The artwork has been on display at the Immigration Museum and Canberra Glassworks.
