In another incredible win for literacy in Greater Dandenong, Springvale Library will stream this year’s National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS) to millions of people across Australia.
“It’s no surprise that we love to read here in Greater Dandenong,” Mayor Councillor Jim Memeti said. “Our community read the most books in the BIG Summer Read and now I’m thrilled that we can continue to celebrate our love of books and our community libraries with the rest of Australia. What an honour,” the Mayor added.
National Simultaneous Storytime is an annual children’s event where one picture book is chosen, read out loud and streamed so people across Australia can listen in or read along at the same time.
“We are incredibly privileged to have a very special guest reading this year’s book and joining us at Springvale Library,” Cr Memeti said. Australia’s highest-selling female author, Sally Rippin will be reading The Truck Cat by written and illustrated by Australian author Debroah Frenkel and illustrator Danny Snell.
Organised by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA), this annual event has proven very popular with 2.3 million participants tuning in from over 21,00 locations last year.
“We have 100 lucky students and teachers attending but don’t worry if you’re not one of them, half the fun is joining in online, and it is free,” Mayor, Cr Memeti said.
NSS is a vibrant and fun event that promotes the value of reading and literacy for young Australians. It celebrates and promotes storytime activities and our Australian book industry.
The event will be held at 12pm on Wednesday 21 May.
