Family Violence

Violence against women, children and others in the home, or within relationships, is often called ‘family violence’. It is a crime – and in most cases, women and children are the victims.

Family violence often stems from unequal authority, status and respect experienced by women, as well as harmful attitudes about gender roles that limit opportunities and reinforce inequality.

To build a community where families and communities are safe and free from violence, we must treat all people with dignity and equality.

The City of Greater Dandenong Council works with the community to prevent family violence and promote equal respect and opportunity for women and men.

Together, we can create a strong and safe society where everyone enjoys the right to contribute and participate equally.
