Our Bright Green Future Strategy and Action Plan - May 2026

Climate change is already affecting our community. In Greater Dandenong, we are seeing more extreme weather, pressure on natural resources, and rising living costs that make it harder for people to adapt.

At Greater Dandenong City Council, we have a long history of sustainability leadership, including declaring a climate and ecological emergency in 2020. We have been busy reducing emissions, restoring our natural areas, improving waterways, mobilising community action, and embedding sustainability into our everyday operations. Since 2019, we have cut our emissions by approximately 80 percent through energy upgrades, transitioning our fleet to low‑emission vehicles, and using 100 percent renewable electricity across our facilities.

Our Bright Green Future Strategy builds on this progress. It brings together our sustainability work into one clear Priority Strategy, aligned with the Council Plan 2025–29, and sets ten key objectives to guide action.

Our vision is simple: a green city committed to a sustainable future. This Strategy outlines practical steps to reach out net zero target of 2035, adapt to climate impacts, protect our environment, and improve community health and wellbeing.

This is both a roadmap and a call to action. Council will lead, but everyone has a role to play. Together, we can create a healthier, more sustainable future.
