Christmas in Greater Dandenong

December is a wonderful time to be out and about in Greater Dandenong, especially after the challenges many of us faced in 2021.

Christmas 2021 is a time to rediscover each other and our community, to support our hospitality and retail businesses, and take joy in Greater Dandenong's venues, streets and shopping precincts.

Christmas Decorations

To support retail activity and visitation to Greater Dandenong over the Christmas and New Year period, Council delivers a program of Christmas decorations in Dandenong, Noble Park and Springvale.

Featured are the large-scale decorations installed in each activity centre.

Huge Christmas trees six to nine metres tall will brighten public spaces at Springvale Community Hub, in Multicultural Place Springvale and at Aubrey Moss Reserve in Noble Park.

In Dandenong, the giant seven metre Santa and reindeer takes pride of place in Harmony Square, the Waterloo Star in Langhorne Place and the Reindeer and Tree awning decoration at the corner of Lonsdale and Clow Streets, opposite Dandenong Market.

A striking Christmas mural covers the steps leading from Lonsdale Street to Harmony Square, and Dandenong Library’s display windows showcase a life-size Nativity Scene and a captivating ‘tree and butterflies’ art installation.

These decorations are complemented with a range of smaller ones in all activity centres, including Christmas themed tree and pole guards, decorations on public seating, metal Christmas trees in Springvale, ‘pole and dove’ installations in Noble Park and ‘holly and present’ decorations in Palm Plaza.

The easing of COVID restrictions also allows the return of appearances by roving performers in each of the activity centres in the week leading up to Christmas.

Christmas decorations will remain into the New Year. Their removal will occur from Sunday 9 to Monday 10 January 2022.
