Students at St Anthony’s Primary School have been getting hands on with marine conservation through the Dolphin Research Institute’s i sea i care Marine education and Ambassador Program.
With funding support from Greater Dandenong City Council, the school joined the program this year and has been actively raising awareness about how everyday actions on land can impact our oceans.
As part of the program, students are empowered to lead by example and inspire others to care for our natural environment.
Student leaders ran four fun and educational workshops for the whole school. They explored everything from beachcombing and identifying sea creatures to learning how pollution impacts animals like dolphins and seals.
The message was clear: what we do in our streets, parks and local waterways eventually flows into our rivers and oceans. Protecting our local environment helps protect marine life too.
To top it off, the students raised $330 to adopt a dolphin “DD” (short for Damaged Dorsal) for the next three years. It’s a great reminder that small actions like choosing reusable items or picking up litter can make a big difference.
