Springvale Community Hub Profile - Meet Zoe

A Springvale local, Zoe runs the monthly Springvale Community Hub Clothes Swap and is a passionate advocate for community and sustainable living.

What program do you run within Springvale Community Hub?

I run a monthly Free Clothing Swap, intended to provide people with a low-carbon footprint clothing option.

What is your vision for the clothing swap?
My hope is that one day all of our community members will choose to dress themselves more sustainably by “swapping not shopping” at the monthly Clothing Swaps. I visualise the Clothing Swaps inspiring our youth (and everyone else!) to impact the environment less with the way they dress.

In what ways can people get involved?

Anyone can get involved simply by saving desirable clothing items they no longer use and bringing them (max. 10 items) to the next Clothing Swap event. We are also always looking for new volunteers to join our team; the roles are fun, relaxed, and provide educational and skill-building opportunity. If you’re interested in volunteering please contact the Springvale Community Hub for more information or find us on Facebook by searching ‘City of Greater Dandenong Clothing Swaps’.

What do you love about Springvale Community Hub?

Everything from the way it looks to the opportunities it gives rise to. As a parent of home-educated children, the Hub is our number one spot for learning and making new friends. The library is fantastic with all of its spaces to read, play, and create; the staff are always friendly and helpful; we love the educational programs held at the Hub; some of our favourite times are spent exploring the landscape and playground outside.

What are your local highlights?

To be honest, the Springvale Community Hub is my number one local highlight because my family and I value it so much. Otherwise, I’m particularly fond of all our local nature reserves (Alex Wilkie), exceptional playgrounds (Ross Reserve), and in general the growing number of native flora displays around our community and the native fauna they attract.
