Wominjeka Artwork in Harmony Square

Artist: Ian Harrison
Completed: 2020

Wominjeka is a painting by local Aboriginal artist, Ian Harrison of Dandenong. It was commissioned to reflect Councils’ recognition of the Bunurong and Wurundjeri peoples of the Kulin nation’s custodianship of the land where the City of Greater Dandenong sits.

The design of Wominjeka reflects local narratives relevant to Dandenong, including a local shield. It also depicts the Emu and Goanna. Ian’s original work can be seen on display in at the Drum Theatre.

He has also recently completed another council-commission at Tirhatuhan Park called Spreading The Message, where traditional aboriginal iconography was painting on reclaimed red gums.
