How to use Council’s websites

The Corporate Websites and Intranets Redevelopment Project has seen Council completely redesign and rebuild Council’s Corporate Website, including brand new websites for the Drum Theatre and Youth Services. Together these websites act as Council’s digital front door.

For residents this means improved access to information, services and consultations. Some highlights of the new corporate website include:

  • a help bot
  • dedicated pages for Council Works and Projects, Recreation areas and venues and Community Consultations
  • the ability to use google translate across website pages
  • all the websites are also accessible on all devices so residents can access Council information wherever they are, at any time.

Below are some explanations of some of the new functionality found in the websites.

We are excited for our community to visit and use our new digital front door and join us in moving towards a smarter, more digitally enabled future.

New locations

All of our websites have been moved to a government domain which means our new website address all end in vic.gov.au

We have redirections on but it’s best to save our new addresses to your bookmarks so you can always find us easily.

Navigation options

These sites have been designed to offer several different ways to navigate to the information you are looking for.

The search bar

The search bar works by typing in key words which describe what you are looking for into the search bar - just like google. You can access the search bar from the header bar at the top of the website when you are on any page.

Hamburger menu

The hamburger menu icon opens a traditional menu for each website where you will find the sections of the website and their sub sections.

You can access the icon from the header bar at the top right of the website when you are on any page

‘I want to’ icons (Corporate website) or square tiles (Youth and Drum)

This is a collection of pages that are most accessed. For the corporate site, the icons start with 12 options and clicking on the ‘view more services’ gives you 12 more to choose from.

The ‘I want to’ icons also follow you around the corporate site. You can access these from the header bar at the top right of the website when you are on any page.

Side menus

We have included traditional side menus on every internal page on every site to help you find your away around. These menus are on the left hand side of almost every page in every website.

Google Translate button

All websites now have a google translate button which can translate any page to your preferred language. You can access the google translate icon from the header bar at the top right of the website when you are on any page.

Click on the icon and select the language you would like and the page will change the text from English to your chosen language.

Have your Say

There are several ways to find information about community consultations and engagements. You will find a red ‘Have your Say’ box on the home page of the corporate site and there are menu links in the hamburger menu.

We will also link ‘Have your Say’ pages to other related pages through out the websites. Just look out for the ‘Related Pages’ section on the bottom left of each page – more on that below.

News

We like to keep our community in the loop on what’s going on around Council. We have included a ‘News’ box on the home page of the Corporate site, just beside the ‘Have your Say’ box.

This box will take you to our News and Media page which lists all news articles on the site. If you’re looking for something in particular, you can use the search filters on the page to narrow down the title, category and date of the article.

Discover your area

The last box in the centre of our home page on the corporate website is the green ‘Discover your Area’ box.

This clever little box is linked to our Intramaps system and can help you find details about your property e.g. your bin day, street sweeping day, ward and Councillor. We plan to extend the information we show here over time.

What’s on – events pages

Never miss a great day out with our events calendar. Here you will find:

  • Upcoming events displayed on a home page panel
  • Search a day to see everything on that day
  • Search by locations, categories and keywords

To visit the ‘What’s on page’ and see more events click on ‘View all Events’ on the home page. Events blocks can be found on the Drum and Youth home pages too.

Help bot

The blue icon hovering above the right hand bottom of each page on the corporate site is our chat bot.

You can ask it a question by typing in the message box and it will provide you with the page you’re looking for or an option to chat to one of our Customer Service Officers through the chat system or an option to call Council directly.

Related Pages

As we mentioned above, we have a handy new function called ‘Related Pages’ which can be found on the bottom left of each page (if there is a link), on each website.

These links are pages that are related to the information on the page you’re visiting across websites. You may find events, consultations, venues or locations, documents and reports or a news article.

Google maps

Another feature you’ll find at the bottom of many pages is a map to a location. These are google maps that will send you to the address you need for the page you’re on. Very handy when used on a mobile device to plot directions.

These maps can be found on all websites.
