Planter boxes Palm Plaza

A series of above ground tree planter boxes have been installed in busy pedestrian locations in Dandenong and Noble Park to improve the amenity and comfort for pedestrians.

The planter boxes are underplanted with a variety of succulents to add interest and texture suitable for the warmer weather. They are a great example of how small initiatives can humanise cities and create unique, loved places.

The concept was first trialled in Multicultural Place, Springvale and have added much needed foliage and greenery for shoppers and visitors.

With COVID-19 restrictions easing in Victoria the tree planters are perfectly timed to welcome people back to the activity centres.

Council recognises that many people have placed a high value on connecting with nature during the restrictive lifestyle of COVID-19. This project is helping to balance the amount of hard paved surfaces with greenery and natural features.

With growing evidence about climate change and urban areas heating up, a range of tactics are being explored to increase tree numbers and plant diversity in built up areas.

Greater Dandenong City Council declared a ‘Climate and Ecological Emergency’ in January 2020, committing us to emergency action on climate change. This is one of many initiatives that help Council work towards a sustainable future.

Council is developing a Biodiversity Action Plan and we want to hear from the community to help form the plan.
