National Reconciliation Week is celebrated on the same days each year, 27 May-3 June.

The theme for 2024 is Now More Than Ever and is a reminder to all of us that no matter what, the fight for justice and the rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people will – and must – continue.

Now more than ever we need to tackle the unfinished business of reconciliation. Supporters must stand up to defend and uphold the rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. To call out racism wherever we encounter it and to actively reinforce the voices of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people across our society.

Reconciliation Week starts on 27 May which is the anniversary of the 1967 Referendum to recognise the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the Australian Constitution.

The week finishes on 3 June, which is Mabo Day and celebrates the 1992 High Court Decision recognising the existence of native title rights and rejecting the claim that Australia belonged to no one prior to British occupation.

This Reconciliation Week, Greater Dandenong City Council invites all communities to come together to learn about First Nations shared histories, cultures and achievements.
