Painting on a wall of a truck and people

The Village by Yoge Biju

Ongoing from January 2023
Halpin Way, rear of Little India Dandenong

Elements of village life that are common across all parts of India feature in a new colourful mural by Indian artist and architect Yoge Biju. It is a platform to improve intercultural understanding through traditional Indian folk art.

Yoge celebrates the eccentric and the ordinary show icons including decorated lorry trucks from north and east India alongside drum (dhol) and dance forms from the south and west of the subcontinent. The decorated cow, flowers and peacock are examples of flora and fauna depicting village ambiance and rural settings.

The richly detailed design with iconic village references adds a layer of colour and vibrancy to the space using rich pigments, wet markers and spray paint.

Yoge is on the executive committee of Indian Australian Artists Inc, she is a frequent exhibitor, teacher and qualified Urban Designer.
