If your planning permit is about to expire or has recently expired, you may be able to apply for an extension of time.
When you can apply
Most planning permits include expiry dates for when a development or use must be started or completed.
You can request an extension:
- before or within 6 months after the permit expiry date - if the use or development has not started, or
- within 12 months after the permit expiry date - if the development started lawfully before the permit expired.
Important: Requests made outside these timeframes cannot be approved. The permit will be considered expired.
What you must provide
- A completed Application for Extension of time to a Planning Permit Form - 216KB (not needed if you apply via the Online Planning Portal).
- If you are not the owner or occupier of the land: written consent from the land owner.
- Payment of the application fee - we will send an invoice for payment.
How to apply
- Online:
- Go to the Online Planning Portal
- Select Planning Register menu > Application Search
- Enter your planning permit reference number
- Select Extension of Time under Available Actions for Planning Permit Applicant
