What's missing tells the strongest story.
Walker Street Gallery and Arts Centre presents the Australian premiere of celebrated Cairo-based artist Ibrahim Ahmed.
Expansive in scale and ambition, the dual-level exhibition gathers powerful sculptural and photographic works created between 2020 and 2025- including a bold new commission.
Through cut-out silhouettes, intricate miniatures and hand-crafted interventions, Ahmed explores absence not as emptiness, but as presence -felt, remembered and embodied. Across these richly layered works, personal and political narratives entwine masculinity, migration and the haunting residues of colonialism pulse just beneath the surface.
Subversive in its quiet intensity, Amidst the Absence, a Present is felt invites viewers into a conversation about identity, erasure and resilience. At once intimate and monumental, this is contemporary art at its most urgent and poetic.
Join us for the opening on Saturday 25 October, 6pm (Details will follow soon).
